AMPEAK 2021: Copperleaf Brings ESG Focus to Asset Management

AMPEAK 2021, which took place from 18-21 April in Melbourne, brought together thought leaders from Australia and New Zealand to share asset management industry challenges and learnings. It also marked the first in-person event the Copperleaf® team has attended since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic! Being able to connect with clients, industry peers, and asset management professionals face to face is invaluable to us and we were excited to support and take part in the event.

Organised by the Asset Management Council of Australia, AMPEAK is the premier annual conference for asset management professionals. The sold-out event demonstrated the importance of this key business practice.

Boudewijn Neijens, Copperleaf CMO, was a featured speaker presenting on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) targets and the push for greater transparency and more rigorous reporting from investors and government regulators globally. He explained how many components of ESG frameworks affect asset management and conversely, how good asset management can help improve ESG scores by effectively addressing things like risk management, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, health & safety, and climate change. Boudewijn’s presentation shed light on who does what in the ESG ecosystem, what standards and reporting options are available, and how all this will increasingly affect the way organisations make asset management decisions.

Rob Tanner, Copperleaf Country Manager for Australia, chaired three sessions on the topic of “Leading for Success—Challenges for Asset Managers”. Speakers from Sydney Trains, GHD Advisory, and WSP Australia explored issues facing asset managers today, including:

  • How to determine the true ROI of asset management
  • How to link value generation directly with organisational goals
  • How emerging technologies are impacting the industry

Rob led several great discussions on these topics and experts shared their insights on executive engagement, assurance metrics, and the benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and improved lifecycle management.

Copperleaf was also a sponsor of the networking event in the exhibition area of the Crown Promenade, where attendees were able to connect and relax after a long day of informative sessions.
