Copperleaf RAD Supports The Pacific Immigrant Resources Society
February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day, a day that encourages community members to #MakeKindnesstheNorm and “pay it forward” with an act of kindness towards others. So it’s fitting that today, I share how Copperleaf® has recently given back to our community through our Random Acts of Delight (RAD) initiative.
Over the past couple of months, our RAD team organized two events to fundraise for The Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS), a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering immigrant and refugee women and their children, through accessible and inclusive programs, to rise out of isolation and integrate into life in Canada. PIRS has served our community for over 45 years, and has won numerous awards including the 2021 Canada’s Premiers Council of the Federation Literacy Award for outstanding achievement, innovative practice, and excellence in literacy.
Wine Survivor: Outdraw. Outlast. Outpour.
Copperleaf’s Wine Survivor is just like the reality TV show, but with wine instead of snake bites, bark eating, and outdoor sleeping—no wonder it’s one of our most popular fundraisers! To enter, each participant donates a minimum of $20 CAD to our chosen charity (through CanadaHelps.org) in order to ‘buy ballots’ and also contributes a bottle of wine for the prize package. Some participants play solo but many join alliances to increase their chances of winning. Over 10 days in December, a daily reverse draw was conducted by our RAD committee, until only one sole ballot remained.
Copperleaf’s Holiday Party Raffle Fundraiser
Last month, we were able to have our holiday party in person for the first time since 2019! We welcomed over 400 employees and their guests to the JW Parq Marriott in beautiful downtown Vancouver. Copperleaf provided some great raffle prizes including a Nintendo Switch™, Lego® sets, a Nespresso Coffee & Espresso machine, gift baskets, and a variety of gift cards, with raffle tickets available for purchase by donating to PIRS.
We’re thrilled to announce that we raised over $7,000 for PIRS. Our donation will be used towards programs such as the Afghan Women Fund, Children and Family Programs, the Crisis Fund, the Emergency Food Response Fund, English language classes, Women’s leadership programs, and PIRS’ general programs as needed.
Random Acts of Kindness Day encourages us to reflect on the difference that small (and large!) gestures of kindness can make in our communities. We look forward to sharing the results of our efforts and seeing what else we can accomplish in 2023.
The Copperleaf RAD initiative allows our people to get involved and support causes we care about. Learn more about the program here.
