Copperleaf Wraps Up a Successful APJ Summit in Tokyo!
In October, Copperleaf® hosted its first Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) Summit in magnificent Tokyo, Japan. We welcomed almost 40 clients and partners across APJ from the energy, water, and chemicals industries, and were privileged to host special guests Mark Tuggle from the US and Chris Royce from the UK.
Over three days, our Community networked, exchanged knowledge and ideas, and participated in client-led sessions on topics such as managing a dynamic incentive-based regulatory environment, transforming asset management decision making, and value-based asset management for electric distribution.

Highlights from the 2022 Copperleaf APJ Summit include:
Workshop: Incorporating Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) into Investment Planning
Llewellyn Treadway, Asset Risk Manager at Powerco provided insights on a collaborative project undertaken with Copperleaf to measure Powerco’s Triple Bottom Line and better integrate ESG into its business operations. Gina Pavlovic, Manager of Sustainability and Environment at Endeavour Energy, led an interactive discussion on sustainable investment. She shared how Copperleaf has helped Endeavour Energy turn ESG objectives into operational plans by expanding its value framework to include ESG-related measures that are aligned with its corporate objectives.

ESG has become one of our strategies . . . and during this Summit, we learned new ideas on how to use Copperleaf’s solution to ensure we evaluate the risks and value related to our investment decisions. It’s been quite an eye opener for us to explore how we can improve the way we manage our ESG risks.

2022 Copperleaf APJ Innovation Award
This popular segment of the Summit gave our clients the opportunity to share their success stories and the innovative ways the Copperleaf solution has helped them solve their most complex challenges.
This year’s finalists were:
- Essential Energy—Innovative Workflow Design and Implementation
- Energy Queensland—The Significant Benefits Achieved with Unit Cost Models
- Endeavour Energy—Enhancing Probability of Failure Using Probability Density Models
All three submissions told impressive stories of success, growth, and innovation, but it was Energy Queensland, who showcased the significant benefits achieved using Copperleaf’s Unit Cost Models capability, that was crowned winner of the Copperleaf APJ Innovator of the Year Award! Summit participants voted for Energy Queensland for its innovative deployment of more than 1,800 unit cost models, enabling accurate long-term capital and resource forecasts.

Site Visit: Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) Underground Substation
The APJ Summit concluded with a visit to TEPCO’s underground substation—the first 500 kV underground substation in the world! During the visit, our clients were able to gain unique insights into how their peers are developing solutions to meet the world’s complex and ever-changing energy demands.
