Innovation at Anglian Water
Anglian Water provides water to 4.3 million people, through a network of 40,000km of pipes. East Anglia is the hottest, driest part of the UK and saw a maximum temperature record of 40°C in Lincolnshire in the summer of 2022. Anglian Water wanted to understand how even greater climate change will affect their supply infrastructure, linked to their Climate Adaptation strategy, using innovative digital approaches.
Implementing Copperleaf® has given Anglian Water multiple strategies to forecast the long-term needs of its assets based on economics and risk—enabling them to visualize future asset demands and develop investment strategies to smooth out funding, resource requirements, and maximize the value of their asset portfolio. Anglian Water now has the ability to pinpoint the pipes most vulnerable to climate change, enabling highly targeted tactical interventions in the short term. Copperleaf also provides the cost of managing increased bursts due to climate change and identifies the areas where Anglian Water needs to intervene to secure long-term resilience of the water network.
